APFJ’s network of local newsroom partners includes state and local news organizations across the 50 states. Our 2025 pilot enabled participating newsrooms to access and publish AP images and content, including stories in English and Spanish.

A crisis facing local news in America is undermining the foundations of everyday community life. Without local news, the spread of misinformation accelerates, participation in local government is limited and the understanding of issues — including health, democracy, education and climate — is reduced.

APFJ provides newsroom partners with:

Local news content: Access to AP’s local news content, including a vast archive of photos, stories in English and Spanish and graphics and live results for primaries and general elections
Dedicated support: Partnership and communications with local newsrooms to identify reporting opportunities and content relevant to the communities they serve and support

This partnership allows me to play on a level playing field with more traditional media outlets that have access to national content, but do not cover my local community, or region, at the level of detail that our readers tell us they want.
