Frequently asked questions
How do I know my donation is being used effectively?
APFJ abides by IRS rules in the transparency of our management of financial resources. Our commitment to using donations to support the reach and effectiveness of local journalism is well documented and publicly available. Regular updates will be provided on this site and through communications to donors.
What are the benefits of making a monthly donation?
A recurring monthly donation ensures continuous support for local journalism and means that APFJ can commit to growth initiatives. We want to extend our outreach to 300 outlets in 2026, reaching a significant percentage of the U.S. population, but we can only do that with ongoing support like yours. You can change or cancel your monthly donation at any time through your bank or by contacting us.
Why should I make a one-off donation?
A single contribution can make an immediate impact. Making a one off donation to support APFJ can make a real difference in funding our work with local news outlets. Together we can safeguard their ability to provide society with the information needed to address the spread of misinformation, participate in local government and understand the issues affecting our everyday lives, including health, democracy, education and climate.
Where does my donation go?
Your donations help APFJ support public service journalism to ensure that everybody has access to information on issues of everyday importance.
Our work also encompasses helping local outlets to modernize their operations, from production and distribution to revenue diversification. We need to continue developing technology and providing expertise to make local newsrooms stronger and more self-sufficient for years to come.
Local news is a foundational pillar of civic life, but it needs independent support to ensure free and fair reporting as a public service for the long term. Your donations help us to make a real difference in the future of local journalism.
